Preventive care is any medical service that helps you avoid health-related emergencies. By getting your preventive care done, you can help catch diseases early, make a condition more manageable, and increase your chances of successful treatment. Preventive care is not only better for your health, but it can also help lower health care costs associated with emergency room visits. Here are some ways to practice preventive care:
Get your annual physical.
Check in with your provider at least once a year during your annual physical. This visit allows your provider to make sure you are up to date on all your screenings and ensure you’re practicing healthy lifestyle behaviors.
Don’t forget your teeth.
The American Dental Association recommends you get a professional dental cleaning at least once a year to maintain your oral health. This allows your dentist to examine your teeth and fi nd any problem areas.
Stay up-to-date on your vaccines.
It’s important to complete all the recommended vaccines (and doses) for children, adolescents, and adults. Even if you have received all your vaccines, check to see if you need any booster shots.
